What Size AC Unit Does My Home Need?
Why AC sizing should be based on a cooling-load calculation rather than square footage alone or the size of the old unit.
Square footage is only one input in AC sizing. Insulation, windows, orientation, air leakage, ceiling height, occupancy, internal loads, duct conditions, and local design conditions all affect the cooling load.
Why oversizing is not a shortcut
A larger unit is not automatically better. Equipment that is too large can satisfy the thermostat quickly while delivering less favorable humidity control and shorter cycles. Undersized equipment can struggle to maintain comfort during peak load.
